Robert Ungard completed his M.Sc. and is now working on his Ph.D. in the lab of Dr. Singh focusing on the role of the signalling molecule glutamate in cancer-induced bone pain. Specifically, glutamate has been implicated as a waste product in many different forms of cancer. It is also a prevalent signalling molecule in many normal tissues including bone and the CNS.  Robert's work is to investigate the consequences with regards to pain of inhibiting glutamate release from breast cancer cells metastasized to bone.

Prior to this work, Robert had worked in the pain research lab at McMaster of Dr. Jim Henry.  He also holds a Bachelor of Arts and Science from the University of Guelph in English and Biology.
